Why I use a Breastfeeding necklace

Also known as a Teething, Fiddle or Nursing necklace, a Breastfeeding necklace is a necklace worn to give your baby something to fiddle and twiddle with when Breastfeeding.

Why I use a breastfeeding necklace

Most babies try to pull your hair, scratch your skin and fiddle with something when they are feeding. Often known as a nursing necklace, the idea is that the breastfeeding necklace is very strong and made from non-toxic beads and components that will not break or cause harm while your baby is feeding.

I have breastfed all three of my babies, with varying amounts of success, but each of them scratched, pinched and pulled my skin and hair unless I was wearing one of my breastfeeding necklaces. I would soon go and put one on if I had forgotten to wear it that day!

Many Breastfeeding and bottle-feeding mums will also testify that wearing a breastfeeding necklace helps their baby maintain focus whilst feeding, thus speeding up the feed rather than having lots of distractions.

Plus, having the necklace around your neck means that its always there as a handy toy that is not stuck in the bottom of your nappy change bag getting dirty.

Why can’t I use a regular necklace?

There are two main reasons why we would recommend using a nursing necklace:

STRENGTH

  1. Your baby with probably break your regular necklace – Babies tend to head straight for shiny, light-catching things, they can and do pull very hard and of the women we surveyed, 82% said they had to stop wearing their regular jewellery as it kept being broken. This is the reason why I began creating safety tested jewellery back in 2009.

TOXIC MATERIALS

  1. Your baby will try to put whatever it can in its mouth – Buying a necklace which has been tested and verified non-toxic is better than not knowing what components your baby is putting in their mouth. Jewellery in the UK is NOT regulated so who knows what could be there. Lead. Nickel, harmful plastics and chemical coatings.

WASHABLE

  1. Nursing jewellery is also designed to be washable. This is an incredibly important factor because it will need a regular wash to be kept clean and free from stale milk, sick and saliva, particularly for babies under 6 months where everything still needs to be sterilised.

The materials used in Mama Jewels necklaces are all washable and able to withstand hundreds of washes without any fear of losing their lovely appearance. If you were to try this with a regular necklace, the metal would tarnish, or the plastic coatings would disappear in no time at all.

Mama Jewels have come up with the ultimate breastfeeding / fiddle necklace design. The designs are safety tested to BS EN 71 (Toy standards) can be washed or sterilised and come in an array of beautiful styles.

Strength testing means that we can guarantee your necklace will not break too!

Safe, glamorous and keep your baby’s hand on the job and away from scratching you!
